Identity

I wanted to give my project a bit more direction. I was inspired by a drawing I found in a 60's illustration book.

I wanted to try and capture some personality or just specific features that made when you saw them you could distinguish who they were. Keeping it simple and bold I think makes it quite effective. For Olly his ray-bans and his hair are what I felt were really prominent features. I considered adding eyebrows, or maybe slightly drawing a nose but after drawing in the hair and glasses I felt it really didn't need to extra detail. I asked round and it was clear people could tell it was Olly from what was drawn. I felt it was really successful.
I then had a go at drawing Clare in the same style. I felt this was more of a challenge as Clare doesn't have glasses or something quite as distinguished as Olly's glasses and hair. So it was important to draw the hair and even the smaller detail of the eyebrows correctly in order to get a likeness and make it distinguishable as Clare. I am actually really happily surprised with the outcome! I think it's got a strong enough likeness of Clare without having to add more detail (which I thought I would have to). She was also wearing earphones so I thought it would be nice to add them as they work as an "Adornment" and it says something more about Clare; her interest in music.

I then scanned in the image of Olly and drew it up as a vector in illustrator. I attempted to make the glasses more even but it still could do with some adjusting. Though I think this is a great image to be a vector. I converted it also into a photoshop brush so I could create the below image...

Having the image as a vector (and also a PS brush) is really handy. It makes the image very versatile... I could now use this vector over any different background and experiments in many different ways with it.
