Francois Reau

Francois Reau

Francois Reau is an artist I found some time ago from the Sheffield magazine Now Then. I felt his work linked in nicely with the techniques explored earlier this week. He explores lots of different ways of mark making. What I love about his work is so much energy comes from it. It's really raw and you just get the idea that lots of fury has gone into them. The textures appear really hands on and as if they have been applied quickly with whatever material/tool.

I also like how some of his work is really dark and grungy and some of it incorporates more colours. Always quite a nice selection of colours, such as the top left one on her the subtle areas of orangey/yellow and blues and the bottom right one with the different shades of blues. The layering of different textures is nice to. Especially on the top right one. I really like how there is a sort of foggy background then a really dense black marks on the foreground. Creates a nice contrast.
